I think there was a collection by Stephen King called Skelaton Crew with a story about a fog in it. Don't know if it started the collection though.

Skeleton Crew. And it's "The Mist", not "Fog".
Did you know that Half-Life (the game) was inspired by that story?

I read it somewhere, Wikipedia probably, but I didn't care enough to remember it.
My favorite short story collection is 'Everything's Eventual' by Stephen King, but mostly because I'm a giant DT nerd.

I'm pretty sure it's called "Devilish Doings" or "Devilish Deeds" or something to that extent. Forget the author, but it's a whole bunch of short stories about how people meet with dead spirits or Satan or other things of the sort.

"The Illustrated Man" by Ray Bradbury. Something about the stories just makes me think.

All of the "Tales of" Star Wars books
Nine Stories By J.D. Salinger (Some are good some are pretty crappy and others are just plain weird-for those who have read them "Teddy" just "Teddy" wow)
The Girl in Hyacnth Blue is also a good book of short stories I can't remember who wrote it right now because it's 2 am damnit

The Wild Card books. Kinda' pulpy, but I like them.
They're about the events after an alien virus (the Wild Card virus) is released that changes a large amount of the people on Earth. Most "draw" the Black Queen, which kills them, some "draw" a Joker, which mutates them in horrible ways, and the fewest draw an "ace" which gives them extrodinary powers.
