Hey folks, how are ya? Long story short, I started my own business working with highly satirical designs, almost always video game related. This is a legit business, we are an S-corporation with an Ohio EIN and a vendor's license for retail sale.

Not too long ago, I found out that my main artist isn't able to work for me anymore, and am having a hellova time finding another that is worth a damn.

So, I'm short of one artist, and am looking to find someone to fill his highly talented shoes.

Before I go into what I'd like to see, I'll state some things up front for clarity, if not anything else. All drawings have to be vectored correct and the final drawings have to be sent to me in .ai or .eps format. We get most if not all of our art done by screenprinting. If you do not have the programs to do this, but are still interested in it, understand I have another artist that can vector, but that means I have to pay you and my other artist for one job. That means less money for you. I'd still be interested in what you can do, though.

Before you get payment, I need to see at least some sketches of the art to make sure we are on the same page. You will recieve 25% once I decide to give you the job, and the rest of the money upon delivery of the final file.

The business owns all copyrights to your art, including concepts used in that art. If your not comfortable with that, don't apply. I'm saying this up front so it is no surprise in the end.

I have an artist working on a design that I'm not particularly happy with. What we want is a female black mage holding a fireball, with a white mage looking "burnt" in the background, underneath which is the words "Healing Is For Noobs."

This is what my current artist has done. A lot of people have complained about it. Can you do better?

If you get this position, you'll also get some additional perks. We have a website which you can have a section of to do pretty much whatever you want (within reason).

And as long as shipping isn't too much, you'll also get a sample of whatever we get printed.

Only reply if you are serious.

Exactly what kind of commitment has to go into this? (I know there is a commitment, but I just would like to know how much time this would cut into, since I'm going to be a college student soon and that will probably cut into my time) Doing something to make a little extra cash would be nice and since it's something I ldo all the time anyway (drawing) I figured I'd ask. I won't worry about posting any drawings or anything at the moment until I know for sure that I'm interested.

And I'm sure it's a question others would be interested in too.

Actually, do you accept freelance-type work where you can send in designs or ideas and if you like them you might use them, but with no long-term commitment?

Hmmm...I might have come across pushy with that one. I just want our artists to follow through. We have had an artist in the past that got severely irritated at me for having them re-draw something over and over again because they couldn't seem to get it right. We finally got the image right, but I felt he was very close to abandoning the project.

From my point of view, this is a business. I love these shirts and designs, and want them to come out right. Unfortunately, that might mean many revisions to an idea. I try to compensate my artists for that kind of thing, and I've only had one artist complain. The rest seem to be very happy with what I pay them.

Oh yeah. You would be hired (from the businesses point of view) as an independent contractor, so you would be paid by the job. Understand that this means I'll probably have to send you a form at the end of the year with tax information on it, and the government'll want to know. I think, as long as you make less then $600 or something like that, you don't have to claim it, but I have to go through the process.

If you draw up an idea of your own, and we use it, you'll be compensated for both the drawing and the idea. I'll state up front that it is rare for us to accept outside ideas, but it's happened.

I also thought I might include some of our actual images up here for people to see.

This isn't complete, the artist has to make some modifications, but you get the idea. I think there's way too much red for another company to pick up. We're trying to land contracts with other companies to pick up our ideas, because we believe our ideas are both witty and funny enough. I think the amount of red in this is a bit too much for another company to pick up though.

This is one that is "just about" done. I'm having the artist change the lettering. We're actually trying to get this licensed right now. Long story, but good stuff.

One last warning. If you go to our site, there isn't much to see. I'll start working on our site again next week. If anyone feels like chipping in with the design aspect of our site, I'd be interested in talking to you too, especially if you know e-commerce (like shopping carts and stuff). Again, you'd be compensated for this.
