No, chapters are not books. Chapters are about 17 pages each and released every week in anthologies like Shonen Sunday, eventually they are collected into books at about 10 chapters each. Currently, 45 books of Inuyasha have been released, covering up to chapter 448. Chapter 449-466 have yet to be collected. The Inuyasha anime was cancelled at the events of chapter 365

The author has said that the series will end around chapter 500, and if recent events are of any indication, it seems that will be true.

Please, people. 450+ chapters is NOTHING. There are dozens and dozens of manga which are several times longer.

Hell, right now Berserk has the potential to be the longest "mainstream" manga EVER. It's been running since the late 80s, and the author says that it's barely a third over.

As for collecting the series, it's not that hard honestly. I got the first 25 books for my 17th birthday, and then just got the rest one at a time as they came out from Sasuga books. There only $6 (this is the original Japanese versions mind you, the American versions only come out every 4-5 months).

I'd feel more sorry for those who are buying the 30+ DVDs, only to find out that the show eventually gets cancelled.

It's a hobby. Collecting manga has recently become my forefront hobby, actually, replacing Warhammer 40K for the moment...collecting manga is a lot cheaper. :) Just ordered Inuyasha 1 and 2 on Monday morning.
