That first one is a piece of crap
Sigh.

First off that 'piece of crap' is a damn well designed piece of killing equipment. Full tang for stability and balance as well as hilt reinforcement. Judging from the piece of hilt reinforcement (the name of said piece eludes me at this time since I am rather sleep deprived) I'd say this is a damn fine piece o' killing equipment. The whole thing screams of quality in it's prime.

Schweizerdolch = Swiss Dagger.

And we all know the swiss made damn fine daggers and still do, da'gummit.

I wonder how they color ornate designs onto the blade. Like this piece:

If some swords were made for decorational purposes a common practice was etching and enameling. Enameling usually being a jewelry process of glass particles suspended in a holding liquid, usually water, and melted down to fill grooves/patterns thus leaving a smooth glassy filler.

Neat process, did a bit of it when I was in highschool.

Anywho, couldn't tell you with that sword since A) I'm no scholar of chinese history and B) the picture lacks a lot of details.

Well, there goes a possible opportunity to converse about something. Yes, time to resort to..y'know what I wash my hands of this topic for it is going nowhere other than the land of bias. Plus, wouldn't this thread be more suited for Off Topic?

I think that it's a piece of crap in that it looks bad. If it were shiny-silver-sparkle then it might not be. Although I could be wrong.

No, I find that the first dagger is quite nice. I agree with Skweeb.

Mind you, save for rapiers, and even then only the handguard, swords aren't made to be pretty. They're made to be effective killing tools, and that dagger look darn effective to me.

Solid blade, handle looks a bit thin, but I'm guessing wood with leather wrappings would have been around that.
"Piece of crap", indeed. I'd rather carry that one, than a stiletto-knive, should I get in a street fight. Sure, the stiletto's flashier, but I'll take my chance with a solid weapon.

Also, I'm guessing you only like highly adorned rapiers, and ornamental swords, DC?

Is this foam model faithful to the original? I don't know whether it's too long or too short, it's such an odd shape.

Oh, it's that dagger. Well, it looks similar.
But, without the decoration on it, if those grooves are decoration, it looks bland.
