View Full Version : Shit. I think I just got turned into a yaoi fan. (Yaoi manga thread)

Okay, so my best friend's girlfriend - a very very close person to me - did the Pouting Look at me when she handed me a stack of manga. Being a guy, I was unable to resist her mind control, and ended up reading them.

Suffice to say, I'm hooked.

I read -FAKE- 1 through 5 (last one being the bomber episode), and I'm currently reading Eerie Queerie!, up to the third volume. (she also gave me Fruits Basket, but that's another story)

I was honestly surprised by FAKE. At first I figured it'd be another typical homosexual manga - two guys grabbing at each other constantly, being interrupted, and being half-mocked for their orientation. I mean, I'm not homophobic at all - There was just something very unusually misplaced about reading yaoi mangas like a teenage j-rocker girl. I felt like a complete wuss at first.

But FAKE really grabbed me. Dee and Ryo are simply hysterical, and people constantly trying to assault them never ceases to make me laugh (JJ and Berkley at the top of that list). Bikky and Carol are great characters in their own right too. And I gotta say, in Volume 2, when Dee's foster mother gets injured, and he again forces himself on Ryo, it was pretty damn hot.

Eerie Queerie is unusual so far. It didn't grab me like FAKE did, mostly because Ryo was an understandable character. Mitso, however, seemed like a half-assed version of Ryo in the end, and it came out of nowhere - very naiive, slightly gay but not to the point where he'll admit anything. The inclusion of Ichi as a spirit watcher seemed to come out of nowhere, almost like the story designer just grabbed at the first person in the storyline to cause problems between Mitsuo and his friend/lover.

And also, I openly laughed out loud at the ludicrous statement "I killed someone because of soccer. Don't make me kill you too." I mean, seriously, this is the kind of joke you see on Bigger Than Cheeses.

However, I did like it. His body constantly being posessed by women never ceased to crack me up, and when he woke up from the middle of the night, having a dream about his friend (Damn, still can't remember his name) and himself in bed together, I honestly chuckled.

So. FAKE? Eerie Queerie? Discuss.
