They take the Light Warrior gig for money and fame, which meant they had to save King Steve's daugter and defeat Garland. They did that. Then King Steve built the bridge. Partially because they had nowhere to go and partially to escape the doom of King Steve's mana drill they left for Prontera, which they quickly destroyed. (well, it wasn't by them, per se) Afterward they found their way to Matoya's cave, who poisoned them so they would find her crystal ball. This quest led them to Elfland, which also led them on a quest to save Thief's father and his kingdom. To save the kingdom they had to retrieve the Earth Orb. After all of this was finished White Mage put them in a crate and shipped them to Sarda, who promised them power if they would go get the Fire orb, followed by the Ice Land, followed by the trip for the rat tail, followed by the new quest to the water orb.
So what are they doing now? I know White Mage is in it for the greater good, but everyone else is in it for the promise of power. The goal to defeat Chaos was mentioned once (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=010730), but it seemed like the goal of that quest was to defeat Garland. So are they really after Chaos?

Spoiler.Garland is Chaos. They haven't really defeated him yet. Technically their first quest is the whole quest.

The Light Warriors' ultimate goal is to repower the orbs and restore the power of the elements to the world. Then, they must defeat Chaos. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's that simple.

Well, that's what happens in the game. In the game itself the LWs didn't have any personnal goals, since they didn't have a character of their own. But in 8BT they do, and thus they have personnal goals they want to achieve. BM wants power, Theif wants riches, RM wants stat bonuses and Fihter, well, he just wants to be a LW (as seen from the first episodes in Corneria) and he may care about the future of the world.

Well, Black Mage only got them signed up because Fighter wouldn't shut up. Now due to Fighter's persistence, they are to restore light to the Orbs and fell the dreaded king Chaos. However, King Steve only said that they were to destroy Chaos.
And...spoiler. In the game itself, or so I know from Dawn of Souls and a bit from the original game, Garland first appears as a knight of Corneria who has ultimately betrayed his king, and disappeared while kidnapping Princess Sara. The Light Warriors had supposedly defeated him soon after. Disorder, after that, was all about the land when the orbs -- or crystals in Dawn of Souls -- lost their light and were then guarded by the four Fiends, each one released from slumber and awakening to a blind fury. The Light Warriors were to defeat each one and restore peace to each element. Afterwards, they had to retreat to the one place that bound each orb, named the Temple of Fiends. Chaos Shrine for Dawn of Souls.
After that, the bats that were fluttering around the temple regained their voices and spoke to the Light Warriors. The foursome then flew back in time, hunted down their last foe, only to face younger Fiends and a new Garland. Garland explained that he was in a time loop. When they had defeated him he had retreated back in time, thus remaining safe, and for some reason untold he had managed to gather enough power to shed his inferior form and become Chaos, king of decay and bringer of oblivion. The Light Warriors, meanwhile, had gained powers of their own and would strike down Chaos.
This having happened in the past, Garland was destroyed. And all was done so that it never really happened. Yet it still did, existing only as a fairy tale in the new land.

I thought they did it for beer, women, and money. Also, a license to kill. Authorized by King Steve. Of course, his signature in crayon.

No, knowing King Steve as I do, since I too was once a coffee stain, the license would have been for much more than killing. There would also be pillage, plunder, kicking old men in the hip while they are on fire, and making shoes out of human flesh (lest we forget the baby shoes).

They have no real goal, everything they do they do because they're forced too, by being poisoned, or out of fear of Sarda and wanting the power he promised them.
