View Full Version : An annoying question.

My question is, why do the robots always freaking die in all TV shows? For the robot villains, they are never sent to prison, only completely destroyed! And for the robot good guys, they always sacrifice themselves for the greater good! What the heck is up with that?!?!
Discuss this amongst yourselves.

Because those lousy tin cans are expendable. Tis my guess.

Hey! Be nice to the robots! I like them better than most of humanity!

Because Robots can be rebuilt. Humans are irreplacable. Though, in certain shows, oftimes they kill off main characters for impact(Trigun for example, or DBZ during the Freiza saga). Plus, robots are artificial constructs, and less significant than humans. Really, the only show where a robot death had HUGE impact was Beast Wars.

Beast Wars? What is that?

I don't think DBZ should count because every time somebody dies they just come back to frickin' life.
Beast wars was a spin-off Transformers show about transformer robots on prehistoric earth that changes into animals.

well for most of DBZ people died and were never brought back. They just weren't main characters. When main characters did die they were treated as a big deal. Its just later they cared less and less.
But if you want a better example, use FMA.
...just ignore the last episode

It depends on what you're watching.
Also, if it's like a children's show or similar, robots dying is easier to pass off than human beings dying. "It's OK -- they weren't living people." Mmm, can of worms.

Yeah, and when their fanbase started to decline in Dragon Ball Z, guess what? They started killing/ressurecting characters left and right. THAT went over well...

Ah, not sure if I agree. Dinobot's demise was one of the best Transformer moments ever, no kidding. Depth Charge and Rampage's final fight was pretty heavy too.
...But keep in mind how much Waspinator got shredded in every episode, and if you watch Nemisis Part 2, Megatron blasts Quickstrike and Inferno because he forgot he gave them orders to go somewhere.
Sure, it's just "Stasis lock" and their Spark is still safe, but nonetheless, lots of robot killing.
On topic, robot death happens because they aren't 'actually humans'. I'm not sure if it's a way of sidestepping laws about the world, or if it's just a way to kill people for emotional impact without damaging kids, but either way, it seems to work.

Spoiler warning maybe?
Of what? Beast Wars? Please tell you don't care THAT much about an old TV show that you apparantly have'nt watched in its entirety...

Regardless, it's considered proper practice here. It might be best to always err on the side of caution. Not everyone has the same schedule, time, interests, etc. to have seen all that you have seen. Or that I have seen. Or that.. etc.
