Thief's always thinkin' ahead.

Now this is interesting. Thief is finally taking the other LWs' "quirks" into consideration when devising plans.

Hmmm... sounds like this comic is leading up to something bigger in the next comic, particularly with your "thinking ahead" comment.

Thief scamming
RM min/maxing
BM complaining
Fighter being easily happy
Things are back to normal.

This better involve BM killing some innocents. We haven't had enough of that recently.
Then again, there's never enough of that, is there?

Isn't it "stop at the duty free shop?"
I could be wrong on this.

Rock?
...okay, Fighter, that's really great. *condescending pat on head*
Thief's so subtle. Nobody would e'er even dare suspect him of anything.

Wait, wait, wait...
Do we all remember what happened LAST time RM and Fighter went shopping together?
Fighter had the "Greatest idea in teh worlds!"

The next Fighter/RM comic will bring GREAT things!

Im pretty sure that is what Thief ment by "gather intel"...I mean what else could he possibly expect?
And dear god what kind of insurance company would cover the deathtrap, one can only imagine the unholy premium.

So is this why Theif threw the match in the last comic?
Because I was completely thrown off as to why he did it in the first place until now.
Unless I'm wrong?

Why? For some reason I have this feeling that the last village and this village are going to be abandoned... and that they'll return in 5 minutes with that conclusion... I dunno, it's just this feeling I've had for a while

The more things change...
In a good way though. This is even more evidence that the characters are still (in some ways at least) the same as ever. And that makes me so happy. :D
Of course, this means that actually going about the quests to get underwater are very likely going to appear in some form. Honestly, this is one of parts of the story I have been anticipating most. The entire oxyale, fairy, and whatnot will remain firmly lodged in my mind as the most hated of fetch quests. Can't quite remember why. I think it had something to do with having to land the airship so far away from anywhere actually useful.
Short comic, but very condensed. So I'm willing to take halfsies for now. Especially with wacky mayhem about to ensue.

Heh, I always help my friends carry heavy loads. Actually, I often carry heavy or large loads for them. But that's a rare occasion, it seems...
Pretty short comic. Pretty sure that with more friendly interaction between Red Mage and Fighter will lead to some other unusual idea thought up by Fighter while they're gathering supplies.

I wonder if Red Mage remembers what happened last time and is prepared to put ear plugs in his ears so he doesn't have to listen to Fighter's ideas and lose all his knowledge again. Or since the ear plugs actually subtract from a skill (hearing) he would just put duct tape over Fighters mouth with no penalty in stats for him. What can't duct tape solve?

Ok, you got me there. I was trying to think of one way to stop it with duct tape but then I thought of another way it could happen, thought of how to stop that then found another way so I give up. I'm highly disappointed in duct tape now.

Don't worry it took me a while to come up with it.
I was gonna go the easy way and say global warming then realised that if you duct taped up all the exhaust pipes, smokestacks and cow arses you'd fix it. It would take a lot of duct tape, cause a lot of explosions and countless deaths but it would solve global warming.
So yeah nuclear proliferation was the only things I could come up with that duct tape even in incredible quantities couldn't solve.
Even the end of the universe is called the "Big Rip", sounds like a job for duct tape to me.;)
So I hope that restored some of your faith.:D

Hey, you can very well solve nuclear proliferation with duct tape. Just mummify those people responsible for making, creating, & ordering the creation of said nukes. All that would remain is getting rid of the current ones in existance, and assuming you've taken care of the right people, all that would be left are the sane people who want to eliminate these things.

I fear for the locals. Black Mage will be no doubt cranky about doing the recon work and he hasn't done a good stabbing since Fighter's double-ranged headbutt idea. I see stabbing in the city's future.
On an unrelated note, have fun at E3, Brian!

SWB-Problem is the people who like nukes tend to be gun-nuts, and duct-taping a machine gun wielding headcase is never an easy task.:p
Edit: Brian going to E3? lucky beggar.

In that case, I would suggest using tape to obscure all the windows in their home, fooling them into thinking it's nighttime and retiring to bed prematurely. I find it's much easier to ensnare people when they're not conscious.

I guess BM's the best choice to gather intel, since he can get info through torture... even if he doesn't have to.
Seran
05-09-2006, 05:21 PM
Well, it's obvious that black Mage would. He's the manifest being of all cruelty and evil -- and if he didn't torture and kill for information, well, he'd do it anyway. Unfortunately for the folks.
As for upcoming events, it's hard to say what will happen. Looking back at the last time that Red Mage and Fighter had interacted, Red Mage has lost quite a large amount of his Intelligence score -- in Dungeons and Dragons terms, anyway -- because Fighter would not stop talking about swords. However, it appears that Fighter has not mentioned swords lately, and I'm not sure if he'll start talking about them again soon. Thief...ah, well, you won't always know what he'll do. He's Thief, one obvious thing he'd do is steal things off the wall while the shopkeeper's not looking.

Duct taping nuclear weapons together?

All this talk about duct tape reminds me…
There is a place about 10 minute drive from my house (and I live downtown) where the army is storing loads of deadly air born chemicals that were intended to be used in making weapons of mass destruction, but since that never happened (as far as we know) the chemicals have just been sitting there for about 10 or 20 years I think.
About 5 years ago they decided that those things perhaps weren’t the best things to be keeping next to a populated area. So they decided to move them. This caused a far degree of panic in my town and so far the chemicals are still sitting there (as far as we know) but the army did give out all these pamphlets and supplies for “what to do if evil deadly chems, start roaming the countryside” there plan…put up plastic sheets over all the doors and windows, and duct tape ourselves in.
How long do you think our air would last? assuming there was enough duct tape in the world to make a house airtight in the 30 minutes you would have to live after someone notices the clouds of poison vapors.

I remember seeing somewhere that if you'd get locked in an airtight place, you'd die because of the excessive amount of carbon dioxide in the air, not because of the low amount of oxygen. And I can see BM going around the town threatening people with his knives if they don't tell him stuff.

You know, I think it's a great thing that Brian's going back to the good old days where his characters used to be completely job class oriented and the comedy was lightheartedly and jokingly off the wall, and bringing back the comedy from those first comics. It's great seeing them with the new taste of- not only class change, but- change in, both, character and comic style. I loved the comic. It's as short as the ones I make are!
and as for all the duct tape stuff..... I'm too tired to understand anything you guys are saying.
Late post, I know, but this strip rang a completely unintended bell for me. See, I recently played through the Dawn of Souls version of FF1 with a Fighter/RM/WM/BM party. I named them after Mega Man characters, using the Japanese names so they'd fit: Rock, Blues, Roll, and Forte. (Not a bad correspondence, eh?)
So I read this strip and there's Fighter shouting "Rock!" It was a real hey-wait-a-sec moment.
...Well, it was.
