"Is it the crashing? It's the crashing, isn't it?"

Priceless.

... I think Thief threw that match in there. Probably to prove a point, or just for fun, since he's a bastard. A sexy bastard.

Well, now that their submersible deathtrap has been totalled before even reaching the water, they have only one option: pray that they landed on the coast town that has an incredibly well-designed barrel sub. Otherwise, they're screwed. But they're always screwed...

Now I'm dying with laughter and not from watching the flames consume the airsub. That's hilarious.

And now Fighter's a pilot. Sounds like fun! Wait, there was supposed to be a storage room?

This was good. I expect some stabbing will feature prominently in Fighter's head next issue.

Fighter's "I'm a pilot" scene was what bumped this comic from "good" to "amazing".

wow

that comic was funny from beginning to end.

good job

Now we need to confirm they landed on Elfland and killed everyone.

Please...Please...Please.

We need to see Thief's reaction to what King Steve has been up to.

Oh man... "I'm a pilot" is pure comedic brilliance! :D

Rocketlex
05-06-2006, 01:15 AM
That scene is funnier depending on the timing with which you "hear" that moment. I think the closer "I'm a pilot!" and "CRASH!" are, the funnier.

Moreover, I like reading this comic as though the deathtrap crashes the instant Fighter takes the controls.

YES! You got the funniest line on the thread title! Go Brian!

Except I'm kind of dissapointed.... the "CRASH!" sound lacked the "shr" it had when it took off. It should've gone "SHR-CRASH!"... that's what I think. It would've made the quickest accidental take-off, accidental flight, and accidental landing, all put together very much funnier. The fire should've gone "SHR-FIRE!" too..

Fighter is going to get "a dozen times" happening again. I wonder if Brian is going to sneak in Underwater Materia now.

i didn't see the match until about my 3rd read.

things made alot more sense on read through 4 and above.

but were about equally funny each time

"Oh that fire", is another gem.

Has anyone else noticed that the writing quality in regards to humor has gone UP fairly recently?

My hat is off to Mr. Clevinger for constantly improving his craft.

Once again, Fighter escapes Thief's abuse. (Or maybe it happens later and/or off panel.

Fighter's line reminds me of Ralph in the Simpsons. But he' not THAT stupid, is he?

willyolio
05-06-2006, 03:48 AM
i think even ralph is smart enough to die from head stabbing.

this is how i imagine the timing:

"so what's keeping us airborne?"
......
"i'm a pilot!"
....(somewhere around here everybody's thinking oh shit)
....(around here people are thinking "we're moving vertically. downwards, to be precise")
....and the CRASH

I may not be right, but I don't think Fighter caused the airsub to crash. I think it simply ran out of fuel, it was the Wizards fault.

Why do the words, "I want to kill it with fire & never look back." float up to me all of a sudden?

Also, I'm somewhat baffled as to why the Light Warriors are still following Sarda's marching orders. I mean, from what I can tell all Sarda really offered them was if they followed his orders, he would put them on the path to gaining more power.

They got that now, don't they? What's more to be gained? I mean, the old fart isn't even paying them anything. There isn't even a dental plan!

Maybe there's a comic that explains this, but I went back to the archives, and at least there's no real substantial explaination from when they first meet Sarda (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=040525).

Not that Fighter helped much.

He's a helper. Just not a GOOD one. XD

Truly, Thief is a fucking jerkwad bastard elf now. Perhaps he's having some sort of issues with the fact he hasn't reported back to his dada yet?

I sometimes wonder why he even is still on the quest at all.

And I'm telling you, Sarda sure as hell didn't see THAT coming. That's right, Omnifucker, Fighter beat your supersenses with pure and good Fighter Stupididty.

Now the only question is what they're gona do now. They at least landed cose to civilization, it appears.

Did Thief get Fighter to be a pilot?? Because that was a bad choice. I mean, he probably doesn't exactly know what to use to fly....

Well, throughout the whole thing he has been more or less railroading them into doing what he wants. BM's the only one who has dared to confront Sarda, and he keeps getting his innards ripped out for it. The rest aren't going to tempt fate. I mean, he yanks them away from wherever they happen to be, gives them an airship, and tells them to get going. He can freeze time, alter reality, do all sorts of other omnipotent bad shit, wouldn't you do what he said?

Yeah, but that explaination only goes so far for me. I mean, let's look at the last quest. Sarda sent them out to be upgraded by Bahamut. So why go back to Sarda at all after that, even if Sarda eventually fetched them & forced them on another quest, they could at least claim "Oh, I thought you were done with us."

Why keep going back to Sarda at all? And why are they always in a rush to complete the quests? It isn't like Sarda is constantly nagging them or anything, so I don't see the need for a rush.

I know its just plain stupid to back talk Sarda to his face, but as of yet I haven't seen anything to suggest that the Light Warriors couldn't slack off or selectively interpret Sarda's instructions when out of his pressence.

Fer instance, once they get the Water Orb, they could easily just say, "Well we're done here." and *NOT* return to Sarda. Yes, I suspect Brian might introduce some sort of punishment, but it does bother me that thus far the LWs haven't really even tried to wiggle out of Sarda's quests all that much.

Is it just me, or were they drowning in fire?

Krylancelo
05-06-2006, 09:39 AM
I think they all recognize their quest to save the orbs, and they have from the beginning. The only reason we see the minimal resistance against Sarda is that the group just likes being difficult.

I'm a bit confused by black mages and red mages positions in panels 7 on ward, are they kind of floating because the air sub is falling straight down, or are they jumbled after the crash, if so, how is red mage clearly floating?

Hooray! Red Mage's wishes have come to fruition! Though I must say, I'm quite surprised and delighted by the airsub's instantaneous flammability. Also, note the airsub crater's proximity to a quaint rural hamlet. New office pool: how many strips before said hamlet is completely immolated/killed to death.

Now if I may be pedantic for a moment, the phrase "air born" should be replaced with it's not-completely-made-up counterpart, "airborne". To be fair to Mr. Clevinger, it's been quite a while since I've noticed a typo in 8BT, much longer than, say, those rapscallions over at Penny Arcade have managed.

What exactly DID the match set off? The ship crashed beacuse there was no gas anywhere, or did Sadra acualy put gas on the ship, but just put it in the air insted of storage.

Ryong
05-06-2006, 01:08 PM
The gas was inside the ship?I wondered that too...But, it HAD to be somewhere since otherwise they'd just have been stuck at land all the time, without being able to fly...And I suppose that maybe, just maybe, the deathtrap will fall with such speed and power that it'll just explode whole village and then throwing the LWs across the sky with the explosion, coincidentally making them land exactly where kraken is.Or maybe that's just a little too much.

Tiako
05-06-2006, 01:49 PM
Frankly, I think it would be a poor deathtrap if it couldn't catch on fire at the slightest combustion.

Ha ha! This makes the "I want to kill it with fire and never look back" line that much funnier.

"I'm a pilot!" Classic. Nothing like a new spin on "I'm a helper!" Yet, as funny as it is, Brian tortures me yet again. I have a friend who likes Fighter like no other 8-Bit person I've met and now he'll be saying "I'm a pilot!" at random intervals for the next few days.

So Thief started that fire! That monkey fuggin' elf! I thought that was just a little flame that set off a chain reaction! It was Thief with a match! Why doesn't Black Mage just stab him dead and get it over with? The sooner Thief dies and comes back again, the sooner I'll feel better...but I know that won't happen...I know! I'll go call Berserker! *Runs off*

Well there was that whole fiasco with Raven, concerning life and being brought back.

Anyway, I doubt it will be any easier now that Thief has super cool ninja abilites. Remember how he threw BM? Or what about the time when there was a whole comic with BM saying the lines, "I hate Thief"?

Not that Thief hasn't ever gotten stabbed. It just usually is a case where it would give BM more power. Or at least, that's what BM thought.

The Wandering God

Ryong
05-08-2006, 01:56 PM
Thief is a ninja. He has a lot of agility and dexterity.BM only has lots of intelligence.BM would die the second he'd try to kill thief.Only to be revived so Thief had more people to get money from.Such revival would be made by thief stealing BM's soul back from hell.

SWB, I am now seeing Sarda as one who embrases the Tarken Docterine.

And I think Thief threw that just so he can get the insurance claim.

Ryong
05-08-2006, 03:15 PM
If deathtraps had insurance, no one would sell them.I think. So, maybe Thief made the insurance? If so, Sarda would have to give him insurance money?

Or maybe because they are the LW. Ya know, the ones who caused an ORGY OF VIOLENCE?

Or how's about the time they set fire to Dwarfland? (multiple times even)

I think we can now surmise just who has been setting those fires.

I'm a girl. And since the other three have seen what Sarda can do, they don't question it when he sends them off on these quests. Hence that's why I think Sarda is a fan of Grand Moff Tarkin.
