Just pointing that out. Brian used the old overworld sprites oftentimes to hilarious effect. Ever since the class change, nobody replaced their overworld sprites, and thusly, none have been used. Should we have an overworld sprite contest?

I believe SkyWarriorBob (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/member.php?u=856) (aka Kevin (http://www.nuklearpower.com/contact.php) according to the FAQ (http://www.nuklearpower.com/8bitfaq.php)) handles all of the sprites Brian doesn't do on his own. Personally, though, I think it would be nice to let the community-at-large contribute to the comic in some visible way, and this might just be a good opportunity to do just that, if Brian deems it so.

If this *does* become a sprite contest or something of the sort, I already have a submission ready.

I assume that it's a coincidence. Brian could just use the overworld sprites from Final Fantasy 3, with the exception of Thief, who would be a simple splice and recolor.

So, yeah, Brian's probably not lacking for overworld sprites.

Actually, I have done overland sprites for the upgrades. I've even seen them used in a few comics. Well, that's only partially true, as I didn't make overland sprites for BM & Fighter, those are just the plain FF3j sprites (well BM's does have a tad of a recolor).

Thief's overland sprite isn't much to speak of, I just took the head off of the FF3j ninja & put the FF1 Thief head in its place. Red Mage's sprite is however a bit of a modification.

See, from the comic's very start, Brian's been using the FF3j overland Red Mage sprite. Problem is, now that he's upgraded, it'd look rather silly if he just used the same sprite.

You could complain that the sprites aren't animated, but frankly unless the 8-bit movies start using the upgrades on a regular basis, I'm not all that worried.

As to the question of opening up spriting to the entire community? That has some positives & drawbacks. The advantage is of course, that Brian would have a nearly unlimited number of poses to work with. The disadvantage is, that with that many sprites I can see him avoiding these fan-made sprites like the black plague. Just on the simple premise that he might find himself being overwhelmed, that & as he uses fan-made sprites, the damn things will just multiply like rabbits.

Look at me, I make sprites just to improve the comic in a small way & to have the satisfaction of seeing my work in the comic. Brian's made just 2 requests of me, yet every so often I submit more sprites his way. Now, imagine just how bad it'd get if *EVERYONE* started doing that. And I at least try to organize my sprite sheets every once in a while.

Not to say that isn't a good idea, but there needs to be so method of keeping a limited & controled spritesheet of every character. Not just a free-for-all, maybe some sort of voting system in which favorites get put into the main spritesheet.

Keep in mind there are rather huge gaps in my sprites as well. Aside from the Dark Warriors & Light Warriors the majority of my other sprites are rather limited. Heck, I haven't even finished the 8 poses for Kraken, Tiamat & Chaos yet. And that's only their small views, as I was hopeful one day I might be able to get their in-game appearances animated in some way. And to be perfectly honest I wouldn't mind somebody doing this work instead of me.
