View Full Version : Fighter and his Sword-chucks...
Sword-chucks, yo!

Why is it that after 406 comics of talking about sword-chucks, Fighter finally makes them, uses them ONCE, and they're never mentioned again?

Because, they were speacial, well SUPER speacial, for that fact using them again would ruin the speacial.

He could at least mention them.

But, he already used them!
Think of the swordchucks as... a potion. No, wait, a megapotion. X-Potion. Yeah. Once the X-Potion's used, it'll do a hell of a lot of healing goodness, then... that's it! You won't be seeing that X-Potion ever again!
...not--Y'know. Not that the swordchucks have healing goodness. But they were used, and we haven't seen them since!

I thought it actually had something to do with the fact that sword chucks are a BAD IDEA, and the fact that Fighter wanted sword chucks was just a testament to his stupidity. Using them at all is indulging in a fantasy, as would allowing BM to makeout with WM.

Oh, Grand List of RPG Clichés, how I love you so.
#173. Golden Chocobo Principle
There will be at least one supremely ultimate improvement for your weapon or some way to make your trusted steed capable of going anywhere and doing anything, requiring hours and hours of hard work to acquire. Once you do achieve this, you will use it once, and it will be completely useless for the rest of the game.

Maybe it's due to the fact they have yet to fight a threat as grave as Kary since then? He'll use them again. Probably during the Kraken fight, but not yet.
I may be wrong, but is he not using them here? (http://nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=060117)

I don't know...wouldn't there be a chain in between both swords? And in that last panel, isn't it just a manifestation of his class change?I don't think he's using sword-chucks there...

No, I would say his sword skills are so amazing he can juggle them...or I'm wrong and your right.

Yes, it the swords-chucks. Fighter has 2 Silver Swords (the light blue ones) and the swords-chucks which have a gold/white blades. Go look at 473 and 474 (I don't know how to do the link thing). He somehows wields 2 normals swords and sword-chucks all at once.

Those swords come from the fight between Fighter and Drizz'le in episodes 274 through 286 and are not sword chucks yet...in that before to last panel in comic 474, the two gold swords(which are apparently named stabby and slashy) DO have a chain connecting them together. Fighter must've rearranged them to become sword-chucks. And that's probably the only time he used them...it's weird that he's not mentionning that he's using them, though...

The Sword-Chucks were actually made during the fight with Kary. Fighter had Drizz'L's swords and Black Belt's Nunchucks physically on top of eachother, and they fused when Kary attempted to torch him.
But this is just a guess. Some confirmation from Brian would be nice.

I do miss the sword chucks
perhaps that joke just ran it's course. But i agree a mention now and then would be nice. that was one of my favorite gags about the strip

Maybe the chucks were left at BB's grave or something so he can't make the sword-chucks anymore.Of course, he could've bought them in some weapon shop but it's not like thief lets any other LW have any money. And yeah, the list of RPG clichés can be applied perfectly here.

As Skit pointed out, Fighter acknowledged in this comic (http://nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=060117) that he is already a master of both swordery and chuckery. Red Mage himself even admitted (http://nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=041123) that "surely no force of man or magic could withstand such might -- I had seen storms with less fury!"
In fact, the only way you could devise a weapon more deadly than the Gladius Catena would be to make two clones of Fighter, hand each one a pair of sword-chucks, chain their heads together, and have Fighter wield them at his opponent until such time as they are dead.
Perhaps Fighter, being the comic book fan that he is, has realized that with great power comes great responsibility, and that using the sword-chucks recklessly would be contrary to the code of the Light Warriors (disregard the fact that their code roughly translates to "rape, pillage, and plunder"). Maybe, like the Hadoken, Fighter can only use sword-chucks every so often lest he risk hacking off his own limbs. Or maybe he's just resigned himself to inventing less potent combinations, such as the Mage Blade.
Regardless, I highly doubt that we've seen the last of Fighter's sword-chucks.

Fighter still has his sword-chucks, he's just currently using the many swords he aquired from going to Swordtown.

Or maybe the ones the Transformers made for him. But wouldn't those be more energon-ish?
edit: Note that I am blindly assuming without evidence that the Transformers made swords from him.

I do miss the sword chucks.
Here's a set me and a friend made a few years ago using AutoCAD =D

I'd love to see the sword chucks put to some more good use soon, but I guess Brian has his storyline and he's sticking to it.

They look like Cloud's swords. Cool picture, though. I think I went halfway to a heart attack. Not really, but you get the idea -- they're cool.

Wait a minute! you've just answered the problem of fighter's next gimmick! MAGE BLADE CHUCKS!
Simple, he uses his exsisting sword chucks to impale RM and BM (or do we call them mimic and Blue mage? now) on the ends then releases the magey swordy destruction on the world. Think about it BM uses haidoken, RM mimics and fighter swings! Death from above, below and all other angles!

But if it was death from all angles... that would include exterior angles... which would mean they'd only be hurting themselves!! I don't want Fighter hurt T.T

I like BM and RM but that doesn't stop me from wanting to see them suffer.
