I dont think you can get any FF7 sprites because they used 3d models instead of sprites, so it'd be a bit more difficult to get actual sprites. Go steal the cloud one they used on www.mortisland.com tho, if youre desperate.

Ok, i'm sory i didn't make myself perfectly clear the first two times. i'm tnot talking about the solid white weapon sprites they have on the weapons page on Final fantasy Classic's website. i'm talking about the sprites of things like Brian uses in the main comic. fighter's swords, Black mage's knife, White mage's Hammer. those kinds of sprites. ok?

Well, sad to say that most gaming companies don't use 8-bit graphics as their main medium. Of course, I can't for the life of me understand why...

I can't do comics, because I have no ability to make them. I mean, I think I have a sense of humor, but when it comes to putting together a comic, things invariably fall apart. Either my ideas are too big for one comic, or just too small. Plus, I have the inability to get fonts to behave, and look nice.

*Sigh*

Still, if I ever were to do a comic, I do have a rather *WICKED* idea in mind. It'd take a lot of work, as I'd have to make all the spritesheets myself, as well as create a whole host of original sprites, but it'd certainly be worth it...

It's not really a custom job, but I think you can use this as a template to do what you need to do.

I have an urgent request. I need a sprite that has the same dimensions of a ff6 sprite (see attached example for reference). I really don't care about clothing. I just don't want to be able to see his/her face by a hood or Shiek head wrap thing, or a helmet. All my experimentations have made Black Mage rip-offs. Help would be appreciated and utilized to its fullest.

I don't really need sprites, I think I've got all I need, what I need is some viable background material! Anyone know of public domain photo sites that are good for sprite comics? I haven't used game backgrounds yet, but I guess I can if I've no other choice. What I'm really looking for is nature photos of places (not close ups of flowers) that don't have any people, and have some ground for characters to stand on, if someone knows of such a site, I'd be ever so happy to hear from you! I'd like to use sprites from one game, but if anyone knows of sprites from different games that will go well together, I won't mind too much. If someone wants to help out my soon-to-be-created webcomic, Puddle of Shininess, and would like to make me some custom sprites you'd earn my thanks and a special place in my heart... well, I'll give my thanks anyway. =D

Alright, why not make my first post here. Seems nice.

My name is Ini...er... Darius099. You didn't kill my father, and you shouldn't have to prepare to die (hopefully not, anyways), but I do have a request.

I am a tag-maker from an online game (see signature). The tags are 150x20, 10k limit. I am a huge fan of 8bit theatre (Yeah yeah, keep the catcalls to yourself, I know you figured that out already) and so are many, many others that play.

I'm a moderator and longtime players (3+ years, again, see signature), and my tags, while not the best, are rather special. They are 8bit theatre tags. And I only make them for my best friends. I've recently been working on a similar tag (done in my own personal 8bit style, but with non-8bit characters) for a very close friend. To complete it, I really could use a sprite of the famous 'Box' from Metal Gear Solid, of course, in 8bit style. If someone could do that for me, I would be eternally in your debt, as that will make the most awesome of tags.

Thats my main reason for being here. Reason #2 is that I need another forum to post on, and this one seems to be filled with intelligent people. Awesome, good for me.

Reason #3. I just realized that I'm sort of using Brians work without permission, in some way/shape/form. Even if it is fanship, I've just realized I may have taken a step over the red line, so I'm here to ask for permission belatedly, and offer to take the tags down if necessary. Without further ado, these are the tags I speak of, in all their animated glory.

First Pic : Here we have the standard player tag for TDZK (see sig, last time :P), from the original releases. Thats half the joke for these tags, as this default player tag is obsolete, and no longer used. It's a bit of nostalgia for the players.

Second Pic : This is the first 8bit tag I ever made, for a very old TDZK friend. It's a play on the default tag, since the players name is 'Moik'. I thought it was rather classic, especially since Thief dissapears with a very FF6ish Smoke Bomb.

Third Pic : Next in my line, this was done for a player named 'ColdWizard', hence the initials 'CW' replacing T and D in TDZK.

Fourth Pic : My fiance's tag, her name is Viriatha, Viri for short. Since I always considered myself Red Mage, the part at the end makes sense.

Fifth Pic : My personal tag, recently finished, with some actual edits directly from the comic that introduces Red Mage's "Rite of Stat Swap". Thought it was rather clever. My ingame name is 'V.T.' so that the letter writing makes sense. And yes, for you obscure anime trivia masters, Episode 7 : Heavy Metal Queen is indeed where I got my player.

*phew* Sorry for that massively long-winded post! And yes, I know that I am nowhere near the best graphical artist among those collected here, but I do fancy myself dedicated. The last tag took me 5+ hours of work =)

I got a few questions...heh, Im bored as hell and am willing to make you the sprites you need. Around what size do you want your sprites? 8 Bit, 16 bit, or whatever? Any particular style of sprite you like?(Final Fantasy, Earthbound...etc, lol I tend to prefer earthbound:P)? Finally, what sorts of poses will you need? I'll get to work on them, once you give me a better idea of what you want(since it is your webcomic:P)

Um, any style you'd like. facing forward, backward, both sides, and walking in all directions, maybe also a few weapon positions... holding swords, bows, X-bows, shields... I'll let you know what weapons each character uses... Tell me when you'll have some time, to actively discuss this, and I'll tell you all about it!

though some thing stood out to me: his back could use a third shade of shading at his lower back. just to give a more FWOW look. (edit) i hope you don't mind, but i took the liberty of tweaking with Kazuya to better show what i mean. [edit edit] and i also added a bit more shading to his left pant leg [[edit edit edit]] i forgot to put shading on his feet. his left ankle is looking really flat, the right ankle, and both fists, could use a bit more shading too. kinda like his back.

Dragonbane, what was it exactly that you wanted? You can make 1/4 birds eye view(it's kind of from an upward angle, but you can see the fronts of buildings and stuff) Backgrounds using the map editor in Age of Mythology... does that help any?
I'm trying to get sprites from Baldurs Gate, does anyone know where I could get those? I did a search, but I didn't get anything at all... Don't know why. Baldurs Gate is a very popular game, and it used sprites, I wonder why I can't find any sprite sheets... I'll try google... maybe I could make my own sprites out of screen shots...

Answering your BG question: probably because armor and weapons actually changed your appearance, and because the sprites of the characters were very hard to see......

I'm looking for front-view backgrounds, the view you typically see in Brian's comics.

www.panelmonkey.org Dragonsword, that'll give you a ton of results. Search this thread, there's tons of other sites that are mentioned throughout here. TO answer your question:

Sprite- the individual character picture, made with pixels. 3D models aren't sprites.
Sprite Sheet- a "page" that pretty much gives that character in all possible positions, or it might give all characters from a game, something of that sort. You'll want to find sprite sheets. If you'd like I have a TON on my computer, and could send them your way.

Somewhere in these forums is a thread that gives links to many sprites sheets by the person that makes and edits sprites for Brian, I'll see if I casn find it and put a link here.

Actually Elminster Amaur sky warrior bob is the guy who does Mr Clevinger's sprites. And I did give him credit (hes the spriter makes sense). Besides excluding EPS and sarda (who are minor edits of FF3 sprites) the other sprites used are poses straight from the FF games.

Does www.photoshop.com or something like that have a free trial version? I know I have a free trial version of Adobe Photoshop; all it's missing is the ability to export images and some of the tools.

Of course, there are illegal ways to get free full software, as you should already know.

I should probably explain why I need FF1 backgrounds instead of FFVI backgrounds......

FFVI backgrounds are much more detailed. This is nice a lot of the time, but sometimes it's just too hard to work with.....it makes editing nearly impossible, for instance. Thus I need FF1 backgrounds, which also match my comic better in many places.

ScyE, if you go back a while, I posted a link to another thread on these forums, it's the official 8-bit sprite sheets, you can use them as much as you want, and those trees are on there, so I suggest you look there. If you can't find it, do a search of this message board for "sprites," "sprite," or "sprite sheets," you'll find what you want.

I don't think SWB has the trees. If I remember correctly Brian downloaded a bunch of sprites before starting the comic. I don't think he knew SWB then...


He says in the FAQ that he gets most of the backgrounds from FFclassic or clipart from clip art sites. Also in his essay on sprite comics his link is to FFclassic so I don't know where he got the trees if it isn't there

If you're still making sprites I need a zombie, a ghost, a skeleton, and a samurai. I will be very happy indeed if you could make them for me. Sprite drawing is just one thing I can't do. Thanky much.

what style? (megaman, final fantasy1 what?) and also what bittage? (8bit, 16bit, 32bit) you need to be more clearer if you want people to help you.

Urameshi, my advice is to try and contact him. Ask other people on the website he posted his sprites on. Someone probally knows how to get in touch. (This could include administraters)

If nobody knows and you have been unsuccessful in contacting him, you can try using them, but make sure to leave a message saying whose sprites they are and that you were unable to contact him.
That way when he asks you to take the sprites out he won't be so angry

If you want to find other customs try searching google.

of course it would still be easier to get someone to make customs for you. I'm not actually sure how many people on this forum actually sprite through.

Thanks for the comment lokisfenris. I don't really like how the sig looks but I like all the quotes. Unfortunately, I don't remember who said the roses one, but I like it a lot.
Actually I like Stephanos' sig. It's very funny and very true.
