Yeahhh...

It was cancelled a few years ago. It took you this long to notice?
You can buy the whole run of it on DVD though.

By my understanding it was cancelled quite a while ago 'cause nickelodeon didn't allow Jhonen Vasquez the creative wiggle room he desired. As time wore on it became more and more of a chore and thus not as fun.

Frankly I'm glad he decided to call it quits instead of letting it go on and on and eventually get to be more annoying than funny.

It is still on the air, but only for us crazy cable people with 5 different Nickelodeon channels. I forget which one, but for me (Time Warner Cable) its something like 243... I can't remember the name.

But it's just re-runs.

Yeah.... it sure was a good show. And actually, it wasn't Jhonen that decided to call it quits. Nick was iffy about the show once it got put into production, and the wiggle-room issue was a problem, but it wasn't until after 9/11 (three days after 9/11, in fact) that Nick actively started trying to kill the show. This meant pulling episodes at the last minute and replacing them with "Fairly Oddparents" or "Butt Ugly Martians", rerunning the same episode ("Planet Jackers" and "Invasion of the Idiot Dog Brain") every week for a month, and randomly alternating its timeslot every week in order to make sure no one was watching it, leading to Nick cancelling the show for "low ratings".

Sadly, the whole experience embittered Jhonen toward TV and movie animation entirely, being forced to stop working on a project into which he had invested so much blood, sweat, and tears. On top of that, Nick owns the rights to the show, characters, and premise, so Jhonen can't even take it with him to work on in another format (comics).

So, yeah, I don't have much love for Nickelodeon at this point, and haven't for quite a few years.

I love how 9-11 became every stupid prick's excuse for being a stupid prick.

"That's my favorite TV show!"

I think my avatar sums up how I feel about the show. (It's Gir, if I ever decide to change it. Ya know, cause it retroactively changes. Yeah. Gotta explain something that will likely never be an issue.)

Nickolodeon does indeed suck for that.

***SHOW SPOILERS***

The end of the show at least was a good one. And it infers that Zim never actually won, but left a lasting impression. And it had the most awesome Christmas carol EVER. I dare you to find one better.

***End spoilers****

So, yeah, much love for Invader Zim.

I was under the impression that all working on the show just got sick of it; it was too much work, and, yes, the wiggle-room could have definitely been an issue. But I think it's really just that they got tired of it. After the Christmas episode, they were all slightly insane from the experience, and stopped. Jhonen has specifically stated that he does not want to continue with Zim, and doesn't want to hear about it anymore.

...Damn good show. *moment of silence*

Bow down.
Zim was my obsession for awhile, and I've got the first and third packaged DVD's, but never saw or picked up the second. It was pretty dark/awesome for a Nick show, even up until the end. I seem to remember writing a fanfiction for it, even. Shut up. I was twelve. I remember Butt-Ugly martians too, because they kept goddamn advertising it while my show was on. I think it was about the turtles or something, right?

POS Industries
03-06-2006, 07:05 PM
Nope. They got fired. A skeleton crew was left to work on the remaining unfinished episodes as well as make the Christmas ep. At least that's what Jhonen told me. If you're referring to the jokes on the DVD commentary about "how we just couldn't handle the success anymore", that was the pinnacle of sarcasm, and all they could say since they were contractually bound not to discuss the back-stage drama on the DVDs, since the episodes and DVD rights are still owned by Nick. In fact, it shuold be noted that they never referred to Nickelodeon by name and simply referred to them as "the network".

On a similar note, the "Clerks" animated series DVD commentary has the same issue, and one of the writers is actually bleeped when he slips and says "ABC".

Networks don't exactly like to be badmouthed on their own product, after all.

Alchemist, no one likes double-posts. Actually, most folks 'round these parts despise'em. Please don't do that anymore.

Zim was indeed a fine show, though I didn't realise it at the time. Pity me. Anyway, it was one of those cartoons where you could watch the same episode again and again and notice new stuff every time (though, four times a month is excessive [read "stupid"]). Also, the voice acting was superb. Super superb, even. It's a shame that providers of children's entertainment hate quality.

And Orichi, what was that last part of your post about?

Mindless spam EDIT: sk3l, Einstein can rot! You don't see him quoted in my sig, do you?

Just to give you guys the ol' heads up:

Alchemist, double posting is a dangerous game in these parts. If you have something to add to a post you just made, simply edit it into the last post. I don't want to see you getting into any trouble during your stay.

Orichi, while most TV is crap, I strongly suggest you check out this show. As far as what its about, the premise is about a little alien named Zim whose race, the Irkens, are out to conquer the universe. They tried it once before, during Operation Impending Doom, at which time Zim launched the assult early. By "early", I mean he end ed up burning most of their home planet to the ground in his zeal. They banished him to the planet Foodcourtia for this crime (each planet conquered by the Irkens is converted and used for one specific purpose. in this case, fast food), but he came back when he heard about Operation Impending Doom 2.

Upon his return, the leaders of his race (The Almighty Tallest) gave him a secret mission that primarily involved sending him off in a direction as far away from the rest of the Irken Armada as possible, in the hopes that he would perhaps die. The random direction they send him in leads him to Earth, and the show is about his attempts to conquer the human race. His archnemesis is a UFO conspiracy nut named Dib, and their battles usually result in a shared misery of some sort as neither of them can truly have anything good happen to them. Good things happening to people is not the creator's style.

Church: That's right Caboose, I'm a gay robot.

Not sure what this is, but its pretty spammy. Be careful about that sort of thing, okay?

EDIT: Hooray for jumping down the throats of new people!

The only thing I can think of is that at some point in that episode of RvB somebody said that everything on TV was complete and utter crap. I'm probably wrong, and it's probably spam.

You quit... being banished?

Jhonen Vasquez actually stopped the show because he felt IZ was becoming to popular, plus people kept harassing him, on top of that, Nick was being a bunch of asses to him, to yea, he called it quits, but he still brought us JTHM and Squee, remember, "My mom calls me Pepito" ^_^

No, it wasn't his decision. Nickelodeon owns the rights to the show. Had they wanted to keep it on the air, they could have done so whether he was involved or not. When I last saw him (with my own eyes no less), his exact words were "next thing we knew we were being told to clean out our desks".

Anyone who told you that it was his decision to end the show lied to you.

Let's throw that back into english, shall we?

"Down let us rain a certain condemnation on the revolting heads of our condemned enemies!"

"You! The fist obeys!"

"Why it is his so great head?"

"He is not stupid, he advances!"

Okay, it might just be because it's 4 in the morning, but that's just bloody hilarious...

You guys try watching it in German. If the sample video on the official German site is any indication, they took some rather creative liberties with the translation. It sounds like every other show now.

The voices aren't too bad though. Of course Zim doesn't sound anywhere near as good as in the original, but at least the guy's trying. All things considered I'll stick with my, erm, imports though.

Oh how I loved invader zim. Its still on toon-nick, but late at night. GIR was awesome. I'm gonna sing the doom-song now. DOOMDOOMDOOMDOO-*thwack*
Between this and Megas XLR, every different or creative show- well, every GOOD different or creative show has been cancelled. Most of them, anyway. I believe this show and fairy oddparents (they drive every single goddamn joke into the ground! It must die! Ex: "And thats his slogan" is said damn near twelve times in one episode. And it wasn't even in the right context half the damn time!) and they competed for popularity. The loser would be cancelled. It seems the kids of the world are dumbasses and enjoy repitition of every joke until its not funny (usually its not funny once) because Fairly DUMB parents was chosen.

I think the most entertaining feature of the series was the script. That alone I think would stilll be hilarious. The voice acting is what really brings it out though. Personally, I'm happy it got cancelled. Think of it this way, Nick could have booted Vasquez and replaced him with one of their under-paid minions. I mean, would you rather join the zombie horde, or take out a few undead (even if it was pointless) in a massive suicide-explosion.

True, but ideally it would have been nice if it had kept going with Jhonen at the helm. It sorta bugs me when an evil corporate giant comes along and manages to altogether successfully crush the soul of someone that I happen to admire, you know?
