I think the best anime(s) of all time def have to be FullMetal Alchemist or Bleach. Def two of the best and i cant decided which is better!!!
Then again, i am a little biased towards my own anime that im writing. 13 episodes in the making!!! Its called "Arche: The Seven Stars, Act 1"
There are two diff "Acts" to it, one where the four main chars are teens, then one where they're adults. Kicks ass in my opinion so far... everyone who's read it says its really good too.
Drop me a pm or a reply to this and i'll let u in on a little more if ur interested... if enough people are... maybe like 5 or so, i'll post a thread about it. :D

The only anime I can really watch is one called "Yakkitate Japan" which is about baking bread. It's quite funny.

I'd say my favorite anime is outlaw Star. the dragonball series (as a whole) is a waste of ink and cells (IMHO) ith the same for InuYasha (DBZ for Girls)
i'd follow up OS with Cowboy Beebop, and Excel Saga

I don't know too much about anime but realy like the Tsubasa series.Mainly because the plot is realy different from all the other anime comics. The idea that Syaoran loves Sakura so much he is willing to give up anything to retrive her memories.Did i mention that Fai is absolutily gorgeous! Also the girls aren't hanging out of their shirts...

I have to say that my fave would have to be Hajime no Ippo, released in the US under the title of Fighting Spirit. Its a boxing anime with great characters, excelent character development, a wonderful sense of humor, and an intensity that I just cant get enough of. I have watched the entire series probally 20 times now and I STILL get excited every time I watch it. Any series that can make you do that is praiseworthy. A noteworthy second place for me is probally Death Note.

Read or Die. That show is awesome, despite having an insanely rearded premise.

No offence, but some people definitely need more exposure to anime. Non-shonen fight anime, at the least.
Conversely, some people here have excellent taste.
Anyhoo, a few of my favourites:
Code Geass: Airing right now, very enjoyable. The god-mecha is on the other side for once!
Kanon: KyoAni is remaking Kanon in the same way BSG was remade. Excellently.
Utawarerumono: Until the 18th or so episode, excellent stuff. It took a dive, however.
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi: Sheer love. KyoAni outdid themselves on this one. nyoro~
These are all recent series, mind you; I haven't really looked back more than a few years in animation, really. Stuff from further back that I'm fond of, for example, would be Vision of Escaflowne, .hack//SIGN, and what I've seen of Fullmetal Alchemist. I really should get caught up.

Ther is nothijngwrong with shonen, some like Bleach are really good. When people start saying they are the best ever, that is where the problem is. The only shinene that can fit that category is Hunter X Hunter.
On another note, a list of my top 10 (in no particalur order)
1 ROD the TV
2 Peacemaker
2 08th MS Team
3 Evnagelion
4 Stand Alone Complex
5 Bleach (yea, I said it)
6 Excel Saga
7 Gad Guard
8 FMA
9 Naruto (yeah, I said it as well)
10 Gundam Wing

I've seen alot of anime, but I like Naruto the best. Mostly because it has Gaara (sure he's emo, but he's the only one I like just because he owns, with penguin level awsomeness =P)

While I know everyone here will disagree, Gad Guard had such a great cast and setting, it really was an amazing show, the way the characters were done, the show wasnt so much about the meachs as how the characters got by in such a terrible place.

Bah! I'd have to say:
1. FLCL
2. Eva
3. FMA
4. Hellsing
5. Bleach (At least it ain't Naruto or Inuyasha!!)
I'd have to jump on the "Inuyasha & Naruto = t3h 5ucl<1n355" bandwagon...

Well, I watched it on G4, but it ended yesterday (so sad, wanted to see more...) Althouhg, I have seen the DVDs here and there. You probably woniot find them at HMV or Best Buy, but some stores that specialize in anime might have them. I also would assume you could find it on the interenet, try anime-eden, they let you wathc from the site, like youtube. Otherwise, try kazaa or limwire or something like that, its short (30 episodes I believe)
Also, waht did you say to get shot, cause if for exmple, you were gonna say pokemon, I'd have to kill you. I mean, hopw do they get their Bom Chika Wow Wow on, they dont have reproductive organs! Seriouslt, its a biological freakshow of schlongless dude animals!

I present to you, NIDO KING and NIDO QUEEN. All reproduction is done by these two. They just have freak babies.
Excel Saga is the best anime. Plus, its proven throughout this thread when oh so many people put it up there close to the top, but not quite there, but everyone's top picks never match up. The one constant is Excel Saga. There. The great question is answered. We can close this now and proclaim Excel Saga is the best right? Right?:whee:

I just discovered Tenjoh Tenge. Its like Naruto or Bleach if they were oversexed and ridiculously bloody and took place in high school. And had breakdancers.

Tenjou Tenge man, and if the second season ever moves out of the rumor/specualtion phaze I will be a happy...person.

Surprisingly enough, I see very little mention of Fist of the North Star. It has everything needed to be a great show: Good theme song (really, this is a plus for the show. I wind up humming it all day), interesting characters, decent enough story, and the one real factor that makes it stand out above all others: insane, over-the-top violence. Nothing I have ever seen even comes close to it. Sadly, in the original run of the show, most of it was heavily censored (odd, seeing as the violence is what makes it stand out. 80's censorship laws, I guess) and scenes where children would die were changed so that they were saved, ect.
While the English dub contains less censorship (as it is a movie instead of a normal series), it also attempts to condense 100+ episodes into something you can watch in a single sitting. Do not judge the quality of the show by this, as many things were changed.
If anyone is interested, I suggest watching the new OVAs, which do not follow the plot of the original (thus you can just pick them up without any prior knowledge) and are updated with modern computer animation. One fair warning: These are totally uncensored. If watching people's heads, limbs, and other body parts explode in graphic detail gets you a bit sick, steer clear. Or if you are like me, enjoy a bit of violence wrapped in an interesting story.

Excel saga, it gave me a main character that finally understands me. Not to mention ROD, which made me realize that power over paper is actually not lame.

Desert Punk. Just watch the first episode and you'll agree. Definitely not for younger audiences. There's more blood from getting punched than getting shot, but the sexual humor tends to go all out, especially on the "Compromising Positions" episode. It's still funny as hell.
But I do agree with Minnerthecat, Excel Saga is awesome. We even have the entire series box set :D. Nabeshin is the best character ever.

Naruto is my favorite, Inuyaha caught my attention and i liked it, Rurouni Kenshin appealed to my like of swordsmenship, i used to like Pokemon until it became repetative, i like Hikaru No Go, I also like Bleach, i used to watch Digimon and for some reason stopped, Fullmetal Alchemist caught my attention, i liked One Peice until it basicly left the sea and became less piratey, i also watched Samurai Champloo for a short time, Trigun was pretty interesting, Zatch Bell was an interesting show to me, and i used to like Zoids, and Roughnecks really attached to me, ant Transformers really apealled to me for a while. This is my complete list.
I like Witch Hunter Robin, because it's a fresh and new approach to the anime's that I've seen. It's edgy, and fun to watch - it has a seriousness and realness to it - it's as if those that answered the question "What superpower would you have?" actually got their choice.
On an off not - I don't like Naruto. Ninja in ancient Japan were somewhat like the spies of the western world, performing espionage and assassinations - which the Samurai could not do because of their code of honor. They did not use silly hand gestures to perform attacks, they wore more stealthy clothing than bright orange jumpsuits and they had more strategy than to walk around dueling with each other in brooad daylight in the middle of a field.
