Has anyone else experienced the 8bit phenomenon? My friends and I discovered 8bit theater as i was beginning to get them into dnd and now whenever we have DnD sessions, I swear its another episode of 8bit theater! Somehow, we have also found ways to include 8bit theater sayings in every part of our lives. Has this happened to anyone else? (example: when one of my friends did not get his change from the automatic change machine at the grocery store, he starts yelling, "Where are my shinies! I want my shinies!", then my other friend tried to stab him with a plastic utensil knife.)

:thief: <--- greedy bastard me!

We pretended to stab one of our friends once jokingly, but everyone just looked at us like we were crazy. We tried to explain 8-bit and all but that only made things worse.

Yes I have the same experience. The only differance is that only me and one other person read 8-bit. It amazez us how often DND resembles 8-bit. Even some phrases pop-up and accident.
ex:"I give away all our shinies!" "For your information I gave it to him!" "Fighterdoken!!" "Stabbity-Death!"

I think the Mystic Theruge prestige class in 3.5 makes a good Red Mage. Anyone dissagree?

Actually, my gaming sessions have pretty much always been like 8-Bit. The only difference is that in our group, Thief is the DM.

The Mystic T makes a good reason selectively ban things from your game, as it is crack-headedly broken.

I have always tried to get my friends into 8-bit theater but they are to lazy to read :(

I've gotten a few into it, and we use 8bt slang, of course. I mean, who wouldn't?

Ha, yes... a common one that crops up in my D&D sessions is "Urge to distroy world... rising!" lol! there are also constant referances to "lvl 9 light spells"

Alot of my D&D buddies find 8-Bit hilarious, yet so few of them read...

To make up for this, I do alot of D&D stuff based on 8-Bit. I'm actually plotting a Bag of Hadoken with once-per-day use, based on the Theif vs Theif video.

... Oh... and let's not get started on my God Of Swords... like I need to say more about that divine character and his 2d6+2 weapon of two short swords with a 3 foot range thanks to the chain between them.

I have also gotten a few people into 8BT and also use 8BT slang in everyday use. Just a few minutes ago I said I wanted an evil pie.

One of my recently made friends likes to say the whole bit about launching boat rockets, then he does the "Boatdoken!" thing. It's great.

And we all constantly reference sword chucks. *grins*

My D&D group all do the "Uge to destroy world...rising..." and constantly reference "Stabbity". As in, "I will use the stabbity-stab-stab on you BM style!"

I hardly ever use 8-bit lingo while palying D&D but it comes up all the time when I'm just hanging out with my friends, "BLARG! I AM DEAD!"

Really, how can they not be linked? "Fighter" is an idiot, and barbarians can't read...i guess this is my chance to make fun of those thick necked toothless morons...damn them!

I happen to like Barbarians. You have to just ignore the fact that they are stupid and realize the fact that they are human shields in dungeons.

Does anybody else find it INCREDIBLY frustrating and annoying when you try to explain 8-bit theater and then forget alot of the lines and the different panels which can only make sense if you see it and then make yourself look like a blathering idiot and thus cause people to not only lose any kind of conscious interest in 8bit theater but also in your ability to come up with or articulate something interesting and worth taking time to listen about????? CAUSE I DO!! >:O
btw i like fighter alot cause hes so innocently oblivious to um just about everything. Plus the picture on the tshirt with the sword chucks is pretty great, Kudos! also does anybody know around what year the alphabet was invented and maybe who came up with it, unless of course the anwser is the romans then don't anwser that part.

Barbarians don't commonly use sword. Fighter suffers from what I like to call "Insufficient 10+ stat Syndrome". When designing a Fighter, after you go through Str, Dex, and Con, there's just not much left to work with. Plus, the fighter only needs to be able to think enough to move a sword through the air. Wow, what brain effort. The whole Zodiac thing is probably wisdom-based, which explains why he can do it...

Yeah...unfortunate enough for me...I am the only nerd nerd in my group so of course every time I start to talk about something they don't know about I always get the "Shut up, you're dumb" line thrown at me.

THe scariest thing is there are people in my D&D group that are clones of the people in 8-bit theater. THey even sound the same....

And the scariest thing is, my girlfriend is White Mage...

Unfortunately, I don't have any friends that know 8BT...But that shall change soon....Bwahahahahahaha!!! And then we will be quoting 8BT all over the place...we already quote other things like hell.

Neverwhere
11-20-2003, 05:18 PM
well.. my friends and I kept 8-bit out of our D&D sessions for a while.... but we eventually bowed down and made a real 8-bit D&D group that followed the plot of the story :D We even gave BM a hadoken (though it was mostly used to blast Fighter into nothingness)

As for quotes, nobody gets them around here, since i've moved away from where I was with my friends. Though I have had about 3 people come up to me on the streets and stop me when they see my BM shirt saying 'Wow, you actually read that?' or 'Umm, nice shirt ?' :D

Ryto
11-20-2003, 06:34 PM
I think I might get a shirt some time. I think I saw one last year at my school. And also, last year I heard someone quote 8BT, so I just HAD to butt into the convo. Lol.

Neverwhere
11-20-2003, 06:35 PM
yeah, 8-bit quotes are hard to resist shouting back at someone who just said one :D

Ryto
11-20-2003, 06:55 PM
Yep yep....so are other things. I want a shirt, then I can show off that I know of the greatness that is 8-bit..
